My friend, Kim, was killed by a drunk driver last weekend, driving home from the Kerrville Folk Festival. Another friend texted me that she hoped that the guy who did it (a wealthy man named Blake Wampler) would have to take financial responsibility if nothing else.
I had a similar experience with an early morning bump across from a friend's driveway a couple of years ago. I , too, left a note. The vehicle was also owned by a college student. He called me back, and we settled it privately. My insurance took care of everything. Guess I got lucky.
I'm so sorry about Kim. Thanks for calling out Deakins for his dreadful behavior and lack of human decency. Keep telling the truth!
I am so sorry for your loss and her family’s loss. This is heartbreaking because it’s so true. Money runs the court system and politicians and wealthy people know this and take advantage of it. What a travesty to be housing individual citizens for long. Look at Benton county-here are people from 2017 TRUONG, HUONG THI Asian Female 08/03/2017 arrested and still in Benton county. There are several like her. Thank you for spreading this information.
Citizens need to know that money is one of the biggest factors when it comes to arrests and prosecution of crimes. NOT the actual guilt of an individual.
The Constitution is a work of fiction at this point in time as it has been completely gutted by the Supreme Court and its rulings.
Money talks and criminals walk in America. Is this the American dream so highly spoken of? If so-one person’s dream is another person’s nightmare.
You know it, your readers know it and the government knows it.
Everything in this wonderful letter is valuable! Let's get to work and start talking about Mr. Dana Deree for County Judge in the next judge's election. The jail needs more diversion services, not beds. We are not correcting people, we are warehousing them, which separates them from their loved ones and ruins their lives, costing us more money than diversion services would. We should be letting the non-violent first offenders go with supervision in the community and keeping only those who are highly likely to physically hurt someone. We should have more Public Defenders and more judges, so people could get speedy trials.
And we should not have drunk drivers anywhere. That is so sad about your friend, Kim, who innocently shared the road with a drunk! I hope the perpetrator gets a sentence of alcohol treatment, some prison time, then supervision including frequent blood-alcohol tests.
There is so much work to do. Thank you, Dina, for continuing the work every day. I appreciate you. :)
I'm glad Dana is considering running against Patrick Deakins. Deakins is a scared little boy with too much power and too little respect for the people he is supposed to be working with for our county. He is destroying valuable county services and devaluing our neighbors, safety, and public health in the process. Dana would be a welcome change to say the least.

Thank you, Sarah. I missed your post. Thank you for reaching out. Deakins needs to go. He's no good for Washington County. You inspire me. :)

Thank you, Tara. We need to shine the light on our prison systems so that more people can focus their advocacy there. I appreciate you.
